THE NIGHT DUTY

It was the 18th of March and Mikayla got a call from her workplace that informed her

that she was supposed to do the night duty that day. She was happy to hear that her colleague Anne was going to do the duty along with her.  So, at 9’o clock in the night both of them set off from Mikayla’s house towards their workplace, ‘The Lily’ Hospital.

Many of the employees, had already started to leave by 09:30 P.M. So, Mikayla enjoyed her dinner peacefully at the reception (she and Anne had the reception duty). By, 11’o clock there was hardly anyone on the ground floor, except the few nurses  attending the patients in the wards at the far end.

Where Mikayla was flipping through the pages of the record book, she jumped.  The telephone had started ringing loudly and its sole tone echoed through the silent floor.  She picked it up immediately and said, “Hello?”

“Run away!”, shouted a hoarse male voice from the other end.

“Why? Who are you?”, Mikayla replied.

But the call was hung up from the other side. Anne told Mikayla, “ Ignore it, must have been a joke.”

Both of them continued their work of feeling i the blank spaces with the information of different patients.

It was about 1’o clock when someone tapped the reception desk to wake the receptionist up(they had dozed off). Mikayla lifted her head up and saw a blurry outline of a little boy standing in front, wearing blue jeans and a yellow T-shirt.

Mikayla asked him, “What are you doing here, little master? Are you lost? It is too late for –”

Mikayla’s voice trailed off. The boy was wearing an ear-to-ear grin. The hair that was covering his face was now moving away due to a wind no one could tell the source of. Mikayla tried to wake up Anne, but she remained asleep. Her heart beats sped up and her face became paler by the second. The boy’s face was completely visible now. Instead of eyes, he had hollow sockets through which blood came out and ran down his cheeks like tears. Mikayla was terrified and she wanted to  scream, but she could not. The sound of giggling children filled her head. She could not even move.  The lights became dimmer and dimmer. As the boy opened his mouth as if he was about to let something out, Mikayla closed her eyes as tightly as she could.

Mikayla opened her eyes and found herself lying in her bedroom. A small beam of sunlight was entering the room through a slit in the curtains. Mikayla took a deep breath of relief, but her pulse rate rose again. She looked at her calendar,  it was the 18th of March.

HOPE YOU ENJOYED THE STORY!! THANK YOU AND HAPPY HALLOWEEN...
