Trump Vs. Biden- The next POTUS

A short while ago, I was going through the Final Presidential debate between the POTUS Donald Trump and his challenger for the ensuing election Joe Biden from the Democrats as appeared in You Tube and hosted by SKY News on 23rd of October,2020.(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yGPfKkjDIts)

Few of the very important issues that has emerged as possible deciders for this year’s U.S.A. Presidential election are:-

1.     COVID-19 pandemic and its management in U.S.A. in the last few months;

2.     Dwindling U.S. Economy and foreign trade;

3.     Custodial death of George Floyed from  the American Black Community and huge social uproar against this;

4.     “America First” strategy of President Trump;

5.  Ever rising Chinese audacity and U.S. response to the same vis-a vis the other super powers of the world and finally

6.     Russia- U.S.A. relation;

Ø No doubt, U.S.A. Government could have handled the COVID-19 Pandemic in a way better manner. Restrictions could have been imposed much more strictly. Perhaps the most powerful government failed to assess the lethality of the virus. But, even having said so, beside China almost all developed and developing nation of the world have suffered hugely in terms of economy and human lives. Actually, it’s not about tackling the pandemic in administrative level it’s all about how the scientists and Doctors responded to the situation and answer is not very assertive. Because they did not have the answer. If the scientists take time to invent a vaccine, is it the right approach to blame the government, or, whether a political decision can at all expedite the process. God knows!!!

Economic crisis has also the same analysis from me. To tackle the pandemic for a while, every responsible government had to stall the entire national and international economic activity and as a result of that economy of U.S.A. was bound to suffer as like most of the other countries of the world.

Ø Custodial death of George Floyed is really a genuine concern. But, as far as I know, right after the incident, the U.S. administration has suspended the concerned police official. What happened afterwards was largely political vendetta of the opposition. You know in India, we hardly bother about custodial death, even after establishing so many Human Rights Commissions throughout our nation. Actually, the Republicans are generally considered Anti-Black and any minor flaw affecting any black becomes a huge issue in U.S.A. I am not justifying the killing of George Floyed in Police custody, but one has to realise that all these happened due to the over enthusiasm of some blunt headed police officials as has happened in Hathras in U.P., India. The government of the nation is certainly not responsible for that, although how the govt. prosecutes the responsible persons, can be an issue afterwards.

Ø Regarding Chinese aggressive mentality and probable spread of COVID virus by them with ulterior motive, the Trump Govt. seems to have a very decisive and clear answer which non other world leader has at present. Right from taking the issue with WHO, upto the decision of helping India to resist Chinese aggression and bringing some of the super powers onto the same platform could prove to the ultimate deterrent for the entire world and Joe Biden seems to have no answer to this.

Ø The issues that POTUS Trump has raised in the debate regarding Russia- U.S.A. relationship and economic transactions with them are serious and I did not find any convincing answer coming from Biden.

Ø The “America First” strategy of President Trump sounds very patriotic, though he is surely going to lose the votes of the immigrants.

Ø Last but not the least, it is indeed a point to consider that Biden was the VP in the Obama administration for eight long year just a few years ago. Then, why didn’t he took the initiatives of solving the problems of U.S.A., for which he is vouching now.

   With a peculiar system of collegium of 538 representatives from 50 states in U.S. electoral system, it is hard to predict the winner in terms of popular votes, but from the referred final Presidential debate it is crystal clear that Biden is no match for Trump. On the other hand this is perhaps the first U.S. election in world history for which the Indians will pass a few sleepless nights.
